A half human half jellyfish abberation known as the Broker is an information broker and is constructing an AI system that requires an enormous amount of power. He is experimenting with extracting the life force of a planet to provide power for his Data Centers which are located in the Diaspora.
The Broker has contracted with a group of contemplatives to research this on the planet Akiton. The Contemplatives had discovered that a holy artefact of the Shobhad-neh allows them to commune with the planet Akiton. The Contemplatives enlist a gang to steal the artefact and take Shobhad-neh captives in order to learn how to use it. They have an underground complex located in the canyon to the west of Maro.
As the life force begins being extracted from Akiton it begins emitting a telepathic blast that can by all telepaths within several AU's of the planet Akiton.
Any telepath within several orbital radii of Akiton begins having headaches every day. After a while they may notice that they are occurring every a little later every day and in fact they occur every 24 hrs 40 mins which should be a clue that they are coming from Akiton. If that doesn't give it away.
The first part will be to figure out where the signal is coming from and how to defend against it. Give the party some latitude to figure out how to shield against it. If they come up with something reasonable and have a good roll let it work.
There will be a gremlin on board the space ship making it "haunted."
