The First Age

The First Age

  1. The lithoids land on Moon 3 from Moon 4 in the crater shown. Their song raises the mountains on the SW continent. They migrate out raising additional mountain ranges before other life forms emerge. Through their slow songs they are able to pull the tectonic plates together over thousands of years to pull up the great mountain ranges of the southern continents.

  2. The mulluscoids land as spores from the shallow seas of Moon 2 onto Moon 3. They begin to migrate out to different regions.

  3. The plant kingdom emerges on a small island off the southern coast of the north west continent. They then spread to the entire southern portion of the continent. The plant supreme ruler grows as a great jungle and thinks life is good. During pangea the plants migrate to the north east continent and the south east continent. Note: There are other plants throughout the world so this mostly refers to the plantoids or “conscious” plants. The plantoids later become allied with the fey.

  4. The insectoids emerge on the south east continent and sweep through it devouring the plants. During pangea they migrate to the island now off the coast of the north east continent.

  5. The fungoids emerge on the northern end of the south west continent.

  6. Fish, amphibians, and reptilians emerge in the southern part of the north east continent.

  7. The dragons appear in the north of the north east continent.

  8. The saurians and avians develop from the reptiles.

  9. Mammalians and anthropomorphs emerge in the middle of the north west continent.

  10. Giants emerge in the north of the north west continent. They migrate to the south west of the south west continent while they are next to each other during pangea.

  11. The humanoids finally emerge.

  12. The fiends appear in the south of the south east continent.

  13. Horrors emerge from the seas in the south east of the south west continent.

  14. The lithoids build the constructs and set them free in the middle of the south west continent.

  15. Mystics of the occult begin to emerge on the south west continent.

  16. Magic begins to emerge on the south east continent.

Cosmology and Pantheon

I started working on a pantheon as part of world building. Since I am familiar with science I decided to create a religious perspective based on scientific and psychological principles with some personal biases built in. This is a rough version.

Origins

In the beginning there was the ultraverse. The ultraverse is a strange unknowable place to us. Concepts such as time, cause and effect, matter and energy, and physical forces do not exist as we understand them in our universe. There exists in this universe great entities called Koskorda. When the Koskorda interact a new universe may be spawned. With each interaction of the Koskorda another big bang signals the start of another universe. The music of the ultraverse creates the universes. Our universe is a pocket dimension in the ultraverse and the ultraverse is a pocket dimension in the larger super-ultraverse and so on infinitely.

In the beginning there was the one pure energy and it had no thought or it had all thoughts at once. Eventually it cooled to the point that matter and energy separated. The aspect of matter is the titans and the energy is the dragons. The one grew impatient and became three aspects of itself. From these three aspects the multitude of gods were born.

This world takes place on a moon of a gas giant planet circling a yellow sun. There are four inhabited moons of a gas giant. The closest moon was dead now. The next moon was covered in shallow seas. The next one is the most similar to Earth, a class M planet so to speak. The fourth moon is a dry rocky planet and home to the rock folk.

The giants and the dragons were the first to awaken. The giants rose out of the world’s surface, made of rocks and stone. The dragons sprang up out of the molten core of the world. The first great war between the giants and the dragons was a terrible battle that marred the world and shaped it. The early giants that could easily wade in the deepest seas and push an entire continent. The dragons burned like the sun. The giants tore the dragons to pieces and dragons shattered the giants into smaller and smaller pieces. Eventually the world could not support the titans and they died out leaving their mark on the landscape

There are also the three forces. Gravity that manifests itself at the largest scales and distances, electroweak, the force of opposites, for normal scales and distances, and finally the nuclear force which typically only manifests at the smallest distances but has the greatest strength.

The deities in this universe take on several different aspects. Some are gods like the roman gods but others are spirits that manifest themselves as part of a person’s personality.

Physical gods: Fisidio

  • Enuna The one: The Space Time

  • Matter/Dark Matter (titans/giants)

  • Energy/Dark Energy (wyrms/dragons)

The aspects of giants and dragons represent matter and energy. Then there are the two sides of light and darkness for four aspects in all.

  • Forces

    • Gravity

    • Electroweak

    • Nuclear

There are also the three forces. Gravity that manifests itself at the largest scales and distances, electroweak, the force of opposites, for normal scales and distances, and finally the nuclear force which typically only manifests at the smallest distances but has the greatest strength.

Life gods: Lividio

  • Death, Entropy, and Time

As opposed to entropy or the death force.

  • Life and Anti-Entropy

There is life force or anti-entropic force. This is the ability to reduce entropy in a certain area at the expense of increasing entropy in another area.

Intellectual gods: Sinidio

This is broadly defined as some cultures do from the order of crystalline structures which would be the lowest form

Plants which can sense and respond to chemical signals.

Instinctual intelligence predator prey type intelligence ac and the hierarchy of needs: Air, water, food, shelter, sleep

Safety, love, esteem, self actualization

  • The nine aspects: Visual, verbal, logical, musical, spiritual, natural, social, self, physical

    • Visual: Spirit of color and light

    • Verbal: Spirit of language and words

    • Logical: Spirit of logic

    • Musical: Spirit of music

    • Social: Spirit of society

    • Self: Spirit of introspection

    • Physical: Spirit of the physical body

    • Natural: Spirit of nature

    • Spiritual: Spirit of spirituality

  • The three: The more advanced intelligence levels which include social, physical motor, and cognition.

    • Social: Receive, respond, value, organize, characterize

    • Physical: Perception, ready to act, guided response, mechanism, complex action, adaptation, organization

    • Cognition: Remember, understand, apply, analyze, create, judge

Executive processor, id, ego, super ego, morality, ethics, memory

These are all considered forces or spirits. Different individuals embrace and are endowed with different aspects of all of these.

Husogni: God of memory, regret, trauma, and dreams

Kunstammag: God of music, art, theater, magic

God of love, community, friendship, safety, esteem

God of fear, hatred, and anger

God of potions, alchemy, healing, poison

God of logic, mathematics, and philosophy

God of greed, decay, corruption, and wealth

God of pleasure, feasting, alcohol, drugs, sex

God of lies, deception, and gambling

The one (Space Time)

The great wyrms (Energy and Dark Energy)

The titans (Matter and Dark Matter)

The three forces: Gravity, Electroweak, Strong nuclear

  • Gravity: The force of the cosmos

  • Electroweak: Everyday to microscopic forces

  • Strong nuclear: sub-picoscopic forces

Mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, sociology, ecology, gaia

Earth, water, air, fire: Solid, liquid, gas, plasma, these are not the elements

The true elements are a manifestation of Electroweak and strong nuclear, created by gravity.

Hierarchy of immortals:

Tolkien: Eru, Valar, Maiar, Eldar, Edain, Hobbits, Orcs, Spirits

God, demigod, arch-angel, angel, demon, spirit

Deva, Sura, Spirit

Essence, aspect

Omnibenevolent, omnipotent, omniscient (pick two)

World Building

I started drawing some continents and I wanted to include some concepts of continental drift in the design of the continents of the world. These are not strict continental drift ideas just some of the more simple concepts, for example the contents were originally together as a single Pangea continent and later drifted a part and rotated. Here is my first drawing:

In this drawing I first used a blue colored pencil to rough in some random shapes. I then selected contours from the sketch to form approximate outlines for the continents. I made them so the fit together like a puzzle, but not too closely. I added mountain ranges, hills, bodies of water and major rivers, and directions of rotation and movement for the continents. Note that plate tectonics would have the different plate either moving apart or together and there would be plates for the oceans as well. I did not get that sophisticated for this set of drawings.

The first continent I drew was from the bottom right in the above world map. This one has been rotated clockwise. The bottom of it should reach the southern polar region, and the top the tropics. I intended that the drawing should not match the upper sketch exactly. This is supposed to be the continent after millions of years of drift. I also put in some impact craters from meteorites since this planet is in a system with relatively frequent meteor impact.

I thought I should do the land masses from largest to smallest so the next one was the continent in the upper left. Rotated and redrawn. I also decided to add some glacial modification to the upper regions by adding some hills and lakes.

The next continent, have not gotten too far with this one yet. I still have the blue lines on this one which I will go over and erase after I trace over it with black marker.

Next is the smallest continent.

Finally is the first continent with additional detail and colored with colored pencils.

I added tropical jungle regions in the north near the equator, deciduous forest regions near the rivers and coniferous forests near the mountains. There is a desert in the upper center and some broken lands at the bottom center.

I used GIMP to combine these into a single world map:

I next selected this map because I thought the narrow waist might prove an interesting area like the panama canal. I figured this would be an important trade route with some large ports. I first labeled some typical creatures or themes that might be found in these areas such as fey, seelie and unseelie, nordic, mythic, etc.

Next I selected an area near the center where I could start things out. I selected this region in GIMP and increased the brightness so there was only a faint outline when I printed the page.

I did not want to start out in the big city, the large ports. I added a scale for the map and started converting each mountain into a large mountain. After looking up some actual sizes of things and thinking about what distance I would need to go from arctic to tropical at least 2000 miles I discovered that each mountain would more likely represent an entire mountain range. Each single tree should represent an entire forest. I decided to use this for a scratch paper. I added some size scales and some approximate travel times in days.

I added more detail on the creatures. Instead of goblins, I now have the Goblin Hills with the three main types of goblins. I started coming up with names for things. I decided to combine two different languages to come up with the names. The noun is based off of Romance languages and the adjective is based off of Nordic languages, adjective following the noun. I then modify the names to make them sound better. For example Port is Puerto changed to Parto. East is Ost. So East Port is Partoost which I changed to Partus. The Port of Partus. Parto vest becomes Partovest. The inland sea is Lande Mare or Landemer.

The sea comes in pretty far at this point so I thought there would be some sort of canyon or rift at its furthest point. The west seems to have more monsters so it seemed a good site for a sorcerer on the coast and near the forest.

The river forms a marshland before it flows into the sea. In ancient times this would have been a city but now it is a ruins inhabited by frog folk and undead.

This one is now redrawn with some creatures added and some names. The little kingdom is Regnolitt which could become Renolit in simplified form. I started adding some roads, towns, and bridges. The lake is good fishing so there is a town on the lake. They have to get the fish to market in Partus so there must be a road connecting them. Renolit sends goods down the river but they have to go by land to get to Kudafis or Partus in order to avoid the ruins at Rovimyr.

At this point I would be all set to start up an adventure sandbox near Regnolit.
